Skinner to Host Asian Art Auctions in February

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – February 6, 2015 – Skinner, Inc. will host an Asian Art – Online auction of over 500 objects from China, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia beginning on February 17 and running through February 27, 2015. On February 26, Skinner will offer over 400 additional lots in a live auction at our Marlborough Gallery. The auctions feature a diverse group of decorative items ranging from Chinese ceramics and porcelain to cloisonné, paintings, and furniture.

Asian Art – Marlborough, February 26

In the live Asian Art – Marlborough auction, collectors will have the opportunity to bid on a large assortment of carved jades and hardstones. A spinach green hardstone vase carved with archaic motifs (Lot 1, $400—$500) will be followed by carved stone pendants, cups, sculptures and ritual items. The auction also features many examples of Chinese and Japanese ceramics, including a pair of Chinese Blanc-de-Chine Buddhist Lions  seated on decorative rectangular pedestal bases (Lot 180, $400—$600),which make a striking decorative statement.

hanging scroll painting depicting two camels (Lot 388, $1,000—$1,500), in the manner of Wang Weizheng is just one of a number of Chinese 20th century paintings available at the auction, which also includes more traditional examples of Chinese painting. A pair of yoke-back armchairs (Lot 343, $600—$800) highlight a diverse selection of Asian furniture to be offered in the auction, which also includes many carved wood display stands. A number of prints, sculptures, textiles, and other items from China, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia will also be offered.

Asian Art – Online, February 17—27

While the live auction offers a chance to socialize and join in the fast-paced bidding in person, the online-only auction provides a nine-day period in which to consider your selections and place bids conveniently from the privacy of your own home. The majority of the ceramics, sculpture, furniture, paintings, and textiles in the Asian Art – Online auction will be offered without reserves.

Two Famille Verte White Porcelain Items, China (Lot 113, Estimate $400-$600)

Collectors, dealers, and those interested in the arts of China, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia will appreciate the chance to discover interesting “finds” from among the more than 500 lots on offer. Highlights include ten lots of snuff bottles from a large private collection (Lots 1001, 1002, and 1005—1012),the groups representing a wide range of materials including agate and amber, and a collection of fine Japanese and Chinese cloisonné vases, (Lots 1190—1201).

Selections from a large private Japanese Anime collection (Lots 1444—1454) will also be available, as will many  books on the subject of Asian art and antiques,providing bidders with a unique opportunity to build a reference library on the subject of Asian art.

Previews for both auctions will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 12 pm to 5 pm; Wednesday, February 25, 12 pm to 7 pm; and Thursday, February 26, 9 am to 10 am
