More Collecting Categories Available for Online Bidding
BOSTON, Mass. – April 23, 2014 – In a continued effort to improve the auction experience through technology, Skinner, Inc., the internationally renowned auctioneers and appraisers of objects of value, introduces its newly enhanced online-only auction platform.
Online-only auctions are now regularly offered across a range of collecting areas from Fine Wines and Fine Ales to Prints and Photography, and Skinner has seen increasing numbers of enthusiastic participants. Recently, Skinner introduced monthly online-only auctions under the Discovery umbrella.
Many bidders are already familiar with Internet-only auctions, but Skinner brings added expertise to the experience; all material offered in online-only auctions is carefully vetted and available for preview in person. Bidders can participate with ease and confidence, knowing that department specialists are available to provide condition information and connoisseurship tips.
Online-only auctions provide added convenience and privacy compared to traditional auctions. Participants can leave bids from anywhere, and at any time during an extended period. The excitement of the sale room remains, especially as bidding activity ramps up toward the end of the auction.
The new online-only auction platform features:
- Large, detailed images of all lots
- Access to Skinner experts
- A watch list and personalized view of bidding activity
- Staggered end times and auto-extend to provide a smooth, exciting experience at the end of the auction
Karen Keane, CEO of Skinner, Inc., noted, “In today’s busy world, online-only auctions allow you to bid when it’s most convenient for you. These auctions provide ten days of opportunity to win the items you choose.”
The online-only auction platform, together with Skinner, Inc.’s state-of-the art website and newly launched mobile site demonstrate a continued commitment to convenience, quality, and a seamless auction experience for buyers and consignors.

I am hoping you will help me! I have obtained two old violins in questionable condition but don’t want to just sell or giveaway without knowing alittle more if their true value! Here’s where I’d like your help! If you think I have something of value, then I’d like to consign, if not then please advise me what they are worth if anything and where I should send them. Thanks so much for your help! I’m going to attempt to attach photos but if I fail, my email address is above, please email and I’ll reply with the photos! II’ve tried to find the Stradivarious online and cannot?? The label reads: Stradivarious Model Giovanni Sapiro, Naples MADE ONLY FOR J. W. PEPPER, PHILDELPHIA, PA and the other reads: Karl Hofner, Bubenreuth 1969 (with a circle with a cross and the initials KH inside. There are no bows with either. Cases are in sad shape from water damage and the Stradivarious needs repair. Both need cleaning as well.
