Skinner hosts Discovery Auction in Bolton

BOLTON, Mass. – OCT. 1, 2008 – www.skinnerinc.com – Skinner, Inc., one of the nation’s leading auction houses for antiques and fine art will host a two-day Discovery auction on Wednesday, October 15 and Thursday, October 16 in its Bolton, Mass. gallery, conveniently located west of Boston off Route 495 on Route 117.   The auction numbers over 1200 lots and features a wide selection of material culled from over 16 Skinner specialty departments and property from several estates and institutions.  A special offering for October is a particularly fine selection of celebrity and sports memorabilia, hundreds of lots of ephemera, American Indian and ethnographic material, and two fine pianos.

Session I: Wednesday Evening

The Wednesday evening session begins at 5:00 p.m. and features over 300 lots of ephemera and sports and celebrity collectibles, including a large collection of Jean Harlow memorabilia, a rare pair of 1963 Boston Celtics championship shamrock cuff links, and a 1940s Bruins jacket.  Also featured will be autographed baseballs, 1960s pop culture collectibles, baseball tobacco cards, postcards, advertising, maps, books, prints, stamps, and miscellaneous paper and documents.  Other Wednesday highlights include over 30 lots of Asian decorative arts and 40 lots of American Indian and ethnographic material, plus cameras and related material.

Session II: Thursday Morning

Thursday’s session begins at 10:00 a.m. and features Discovery usual broad selection of 18th -20th century furniture and decorative arts.  Furniture to be offered includes American, Country, Victorian, English and European, Mid-Century Modern, and custom reproduction examples. Also on the block, is a Peter Hunt overmantel mirror, a wide selection of pottery and porcelain, art glass, clocks and timepieces, Oriental rugs and carpets, nearly 200 lots of paintings and prints, more cameras, and pianos by Steinway and Knabe.
