Skinner Auctions Estate Jewelry & Silver in February Discovery Auction

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – February 16, 2010 – www.skinnerinc.comOn Wednesday, February 24th and Thursday, February 25th 2010, Skinner, Inc., one of the world’s leading auction houses for antiques and fine art, will host a two-day Discovery auction featuring Silver and Estate Jewelry in its Marlborough, Massachusetts gallery at 274 Cedar Hill Street. The auction begins at 2 p.m. and numbers over 1,200 lots.

Wednesday Session

Wednesday’s session begin at 2 p.m. with over 180 lots of silver and silver plated flatware, serving and display pieces.  Makers featured include Tiffany, Gorham, Kirk, and a number of fine southern coin silver makers.  Highlighted lots include lot 37, two whimsical Austro-Hungarian silver table items in the form a boy with a hoop and a train, and lot 83, a fine reticulated silver bowl retailed by Bigelow and Kennard.

Following silver is over 350 lots of estate jewelry, including many offerings in antique jewelry, costume jewelry, and vintage pieces from local estates.  Featured is a good selection of diamond jewelry, including  lot 388, a 14kt Gold, Opal, Diamond, and Seed Pearl Bangle Bracelet, and lot 494, a 14kt Gold and Diamond Ring.

Thursday Session

Thursday’s auction features Discovery’s usual fare: a wide and varied offering of estate furnishings, decorative accessories, carpets & rugs, and artwork from the 18th – 20th century. Featured are Antiques and Modern Design from Massachusetts estates, including Lot 528, a Joseph Gerte inlaid and carved mahogany sideboard, a Boston first quality custom cabinetmaker.
