As the first brick and mortar auction house to offer exceptional beers at auction, Skinner is looking forward to forging a parallel path as the auction house of choice for consignors and collectors of fine spirits, with the addition of Mr. Hyman.
Hyman, a resident of Boston, comes to Skinner with over 15 years of experience as a whisky consultant, including more than two years as head of Whisky & Rare Spirits at Bonhams New York. A leading authority in the field, he has curated a number of successful auctions featuring a variety of superior offerings, from unusual American bourbons, to notable decades-old scotches, to rare Cuban rums, exotic gins and more.
Hyman’s diverse experience also includes several years as an investment analyst and portfolio manager, lending a unique perspective to his work at Skinner.
Marie Keep, Skinner, Inc.’s Director of Fine Wines noted, “We have been encouraged by growing interest in the emerging market for spirits at auction and are continuing to expand our offerings in this category. Bringing Joe Hyman to our team of specialists was a natural step for Skinner.”
After hosting a dedicated Fine Ales – Online auction this past spring to great fanfare, Skinner, led by Hyman, is making plans for its first-ever, dedicated online auction of Fine Spirits.
Hyman observes, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work for an auction house that is at the cutting edge of the expanding secondary market for whiskys and other remarkable spirits. Buyers and sellers in the U.S. and abroad are looking for greater and more frequent opportunities, and Skinner is meeting that challenge.”
Skinner’s next auction of Fine Wines, featuring fine spirits and ales will take place on October 28th and 29th in Boston. For recent auction results or upcoming highlights, please visit www.skinnerinc.com.
