Discovery Auction Featues Vast Selection of Ceramics

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – January 3, 2013 – Skinner, Inc. will host a Discovery auction on January 9th and 10th in its Marlborough gallery. The two-day sale presents an excellent assortment of Victorian and 20th century furnishings, as well as an extensive collection of European and American ceramics.

Ceramics and Glass

Best of Boston 2011Skinner’s first Discovery auction of 2013 offers a diverse selection of European and American porcelain from makers such as Wedgwood; Knowles, Taylor & Knowles; and Ott & Brewer. Highlights include a glazed Drabware cheese dish with cover (lot 973, estimated between $200 and $400).

Beautiful glass pieces will also be offered, including a green-enameled and etched amber Bohemian flash footed jar with cover (lot 21, $250 to $350) and five Lalique molded art glass sparrow figures (lot 158, $200 to $300).

Furniture, Textiles and Decorative Objects

Fun furniture lots include an Art Deco maple and bird’s-eye maple veneer mirrored vanity set (lot 705, $400 to $600) and a green-painted cushion seat garden chair and table set (lot 685, $300 to $500).

Unique home décor offerings include a Kuba rug from the Northeast Caucasus (lot 447, $500 to $700), a pair of Oscar Bach Art Deco table lamps (lot 812, $400 to $600), a hexagonal gilt-metal overlay bent slag glass panel table lamp (lot 107, $500 to $700), and a 19th century Russian gilt and red-painted iron padlock (lot 55, $600 to $800).

Please note that Skinner has extended the preview hours with an additional two hours on Tuesday evening.

Previews for the auction will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, 12 p.m.-7 p.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2013, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Thursday, January 10, 2013, 9 a.m.-10 a.m.
