The Story of Rugs is the Story of Civilization
A Lecture by Lawrence M. Kearney
This talk will explore the development of rugs and related textiles through the ages: from Tribal cultures, such as the Baktiari of Southwestern Iran and the Turkoman weavers of Central Asia; through village weavings, such as Kazak and Northwest Persian rugs; into 19th and 20th century workshop production where the emphasis is on sophisticated design and the use of sumptuous materials, such as silk Tabrizes and Kashans. We will conclude with some thoughts on the future of antique rug collecting and the antique rug business.
This event is free and open to the public, refreshments will be served.
