Colored Stones and Important Jewelry featured at Skinner Auction

BOSTON, MA – April 27, 2018 – Skinner is pleased to announce May 15th as the date for our first Important Jewelry auction of the year. Collectors and buyers who wait in anticipation of this event will be pleased with the breadth and content of this auction, featuring over 400 lots of diamonds, colored stones, and antique and period jewelry.

Rare Colombian Emeralds

Platinum, Emerald, and Diamond Necklace, c. 1905 (Lot 128, Estimate: $100,000-125,000)

Our Important Jewelry auction features several exceptional Colombian emeralds. The cover of our catalog is an impressive emerald and diamond necklace dating to approximately 1905 (Lot 128, Estimate: $100,000-$125,000). An emerald from the estate of renowned art collector Emily Crane Chadbourne carved with Mughal motifs (lot 176, Estimate: $30,000-$50,000) has already attracted international interest.

Two Single-Owner Collections

Beginning the auction is the collection of Rebecca and Richard Wise of RW Wise Goldsmiths in Lenox, Massachusetts. The Wises are well known for their work with high-quality stones and unique antique and period jewelry.

We are also excited to offer jewelry from the estate of Nancy Friday, the author of the groundbreaking best-selling book My Secret Garden, published in 1973. Friday’s collection includes pieces by Buccellati, Verdura, Janiye, and Barry Kieselstein-Cord.

Antique and Period Jewelry

Skinner is well-known for bringing examples of antique and period jewelry to auction, and the May sale presents items from several notable collectors. Of particular interest is a Kashmir sapphire and diamond ring (Lot 127, Estimate: $15,000-$20,000) that has descended within the family of Alvin William Krech. Also featured in the catalog is an iconic grape necklace by Castellani dating to approximately 1880 (Lot 86, Estimate: $20,000-$30,000).

A selection of vintage and contemporary jewelry by prestigious makers includes designs by Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Buccellati, David Webb, Schlumberger, and Chopard.

Previews, Catalog, and Bidding

Previews for the auction will be held in Marlborough, on April 18, 12PM-5PM, April 19, 12PM-7PM, and April 20, 8AM-9:30AM.
