At Auction: The Sara and Samuel Laver Collection of Wedgwood and Related Wares

Featured in the July 14th European Furniture & Decorative Arts auction

Skinner has a long tradition of handling significant single-owner collections at auction, and particularly in the field of Wedgwood. When you think of the early days at the Buten Wedgwood Museum in Merion, Pennsylvania, you also have to think of the surrounding area and the wealth of Wedgwood collectors within a stone’s throw of the comprehensive collection, acquired by The Birmingham Museum of Art in 2010. The Oster and Milestone collections sold in the late 1960’s and mid-1970’s; the Zeitlin Collection at Skinner in 2006; and the Polikoff Collection in 2017. At least one more area collection has been in seclusion until now, the Laver Collection.

Sam and Sara Laver were avid Wedgwood collectors and students of 18th century English pottery, Wedgwood & contemporaries. The Lavers were actively involved with the Buten Wedgwood Museum; Sara served as Associate Director, and they were widely known for welcoming others to view their collection.
