First edition, large 8vo, brown calf with ruled covers and gilt edges, title and date gilt-stamped on spine, elaborately decorated title page and frontispiece portrait of Henry VII engraved by John Payne, with title "Cor regis inscrutabile", various inscriptions from former owners on ffep (cracking at spine, hinges loose, corners bumped),11 1/2 x 7 1/2 in. Bacon's only completed work of history.
