Description:
Martín Rico y Ortega (Spanish, 1833-1908)
Canal Santa Maria Formosa
Signed "RICO" lower right, titled on a presentation plaque.
Oil on canvas, 18 3/4 x 28 1/4 in. (47.5 x 71.5 cm),framed.
Condition: Lined, small line of retouch to upper left corner, scattered dots of retouch to the sky, fine, stable craquelure.
Estimate $25,000-35,000
Framed dimensions are 26 1/2 x 35 3/4 x 2 3/8 inches.
There are about six pinpoint-sized dots of retouch across the sky. Small area of retouch in the upper left corner is L-shaped and measures 1/2 x 1/4 inch. There is also a tiny bit of retouch to the upper right edge just below the corner, probably to cover small frame abrasion.
Upon close examination, there appears to be a small horizontal line in the canvas, perhaps a weaving flaw, that runs from the right side of the cloud for about six inches. The surface of this area does not fluoresce, and it is noticeable only in raking light.
Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. Any condition statement given, as a courtesy to a client, is only an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Skinner shall have no responsibility for any error or omission.
