Mother-of-pearl-inlaid Wood Casket, Northwest India, Gujarat, possibly late 16th century, rectangular resting on four feet, the hinged cover with angled sides, decorated with geometric roundel designs against a ground with foliate scrolls, all in mother-of-pearl inlays, brass fittings, with keyhole to the front, velvet covered interior, 14 3/4 x 25 1/2 x 14 7/8 in.

Both box and cover possibly reinforced with carved wood foliate borders and trims, multiple traces of restoration visible particularly to the underside and the four corners of the cover, cracks to bottom and cover top (now repaired),one foot with damage to carved detail, multiple losses of inlaid pieces, brass fittings possibly added later.
