This auction features select ukiyo-e prints by old masters, such as Utamaro, Hokusai, and Hiroshige; various types of modern prints by shin-hanga artists, including Hasui, Ryohei, Sugiura, Mayumi; and kakejiku hanging scrolls of various subjects from Edo to late Meiji periods. Almost all of the offered have been hung in the houses of avid private collectors until recently, this auction will showcase not only the enduring charm of Japanese art and design, which has been captivating art collectors in the West for centuries, but also their undeniable influence in shaping modern art and design and today’s decorative art in general.
