Village of the Great Pyramids, Egypt, alternately titled Vilage[sic] de Pyr's de Gizeh
Signed, titled (alternate title) and dated "...PAPE/VILAGE DE PYR'S DE GIZEH.90." lower right, identified on a handwritten label from the Omaha Exposition (undated) affixed to the frame backing.
Oil on panel, 10 1/2 x 14 5/8 in. (26.5 x 37.0 cm),framed (under glass).
Condition: Signature partially abraded, small abrasion to sky upper center, scattered small losses, minor wear to the edges of the panel.
Provenance: From the estate of the artist; to Skinner, Inc., American & European Paintings & Prints, March 9, 1990, auction 1315, lot 204; to the current owner.
Estimate $800-1,200
Frmed dimensions are 16 x 20 x 1 1/4 inches.
The work is further inscribed very faintly in the lower right corner. The abrasion before the name "PAPE" in the signature appears to include the artist's name "...FRÈDÈRIC." but again it is hard to read.
