Ming Carpet Fragment, China, c. 1600, geometric design in blue, emerald green, light brown, lattice work resting on a faded red field, 3 ft. 7 in. x 4 ft. 11 in. Note: fragment of a larger rug of which six or seven other pieces are known, silk warp and cotton weft structure with thick knots is similar to Dixon's Imperial Palace dragon carpet, graceful curves are created in the design through the use of special knots which are unique to rugs from this group.
