Description:
British Officers Hanger and Scabbard, c. 1770-85, iron hilt with decoratively pierced counter-guard, reeded tapering knuckle bow and spiral decorated ovoid pommel, spiral carved ebony grip with silver wire and ribbon decoration; curved single-edge blade with false edge at the clipped tip and single wide fuller; black leather scabbard with iron throat, middle band and tip; blade lg. 30 1/4, overall lg. 36 1/2 in.

Hilt is toned to brown and has areas of minor surface corrosion, evidence of branches on either side of the knuckle bow that were removed during period of use.; grip has small chips at top and bottom, hilt has slight movement on the blade tang; blade is generally bright with areas of gray mottling; scabbard leather has some surface loss, iron mounts have mottled gray toning, but is stable overall.
