Colorfully Cast: A California Collection Online
Previews open February 8-10 in Marlborough. Book a preview appointment.
Years ago, after constructing their dream homes both in the mountains and at the water, young collectors with a new family recognized that while their homes were beautiful, the elements of warmth, comfort and timeliness were missing. This collection is their passion realized in acquiring Americana – the serious and the important alongside the whimsical and the surprising. As their family has grown and they have begun to downsize, they are parting with these beloved pieces.
Skinner is pleased to present this collection of boldly colorful and crowd-pleasing folk art from California collectors. As you’ll see, the esoteric and unexpected fit comfortably alongside the more traditional forms to create the warm and inviting aesthetic they had in mind when they began collecting. A wide variety of trade signs, painted furniture and woodenware, weathervanes, and cast iron, including an impressive collection of windmill weights, are joined by naïve folk carvings, wrought iron sculptures, unusual pieces of architectural decoration and utility, and, of course, vintage stuffed leather ottomans in the form of African mammals.
