Gaetano Curreri-Alibrandi (Italian/American, 1927-2020)
Emulazione. Signed and dated "G. Alibrandi/1961" l.r., signed "G. Alibrandi" in two places on the reverse, titled in an inscription on the reverse and on an exhibition label (see below) affixed to the reverse. Oil on canvas, 39 1/2 x 59 1/2 in., framed. Condition: Craquelure with tenting, canvas dent with faint tear c.r., areas of flaking with pigment losses u.l. and l.r., surface grime.

N.B. After a stint in the Italian air force as a glider pilot, Gaetano Curreri-Alibrandi attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, graduating in 1954. He remained in Rome working at the Vatican under Pope Pius XII and exhibited throughout Europe, including solo shows in Rome, Venice, Bologna, and Salzburg. He immigrated to the United States in 1965 and secured representation with Shuster Galleries in New York, then earned a Master's degree from Massachusetts College of Art and became Dean of New England School of Art and Design. Curreri-Alibrandi devoted his career to promoting art, not only as an artist and a teacher, but also as a gallery owner and author.
