Per Lunde Jørgensen lives and works in Copenhagen, and holds an MFA from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (1998) and a degree in Film and Media Studies from the University of Copenhagen (2000). A main question in his work is how subjectivity is formatted in a culture of prefabricated solutions and products. He often uses techniques of appropriation and assemblage to investigate preowned products by collecting, dismantling and reassembling them in new configurations or by presenting them in other spaces.
Jørgensen's recent works are based on upholstery fabrics from office chairs collected from private homes. Another series is based on red fabrics from sofa furniture. The transformation of these mass-produced objects make them fluctuate between familiarity and abstraction and raise new questions about ownership, entropy and work/non-work. We are normally sitting on chairs and sofas rather than looking at them, sensing them "blindly" with our bodies. Yet here the objects are turned into images reflecting the infinite strangeness of the real.
Per Lunde Jørgensen has had solo shows at Galleri Søren Houmann, Denmark, and at Overgaden, Denmark, and participated in a wide range of group exhibitions, fx at Stadtgalerie Kiel, Germany, at KOS, Denmark, and at Norrkoping Kunstmuseum, Sweden. His work is collected by the Danish Arts Foundation.
