Scarce French Model 1763 Infantry Musket, Saint-Etienne, France, mid-1760s, 44 15/16 in., .77 caliber round barrel with indistinct mark on the left side of the breech and bottom mounted bayonet lug secured to the walnut stock with three iron bands, the upper band with distinctive rammer channel cover extending to the middle band, the middle band with rear and forward projections on the bottom; the stock with carved "18" on the right side; the slightly curved flat lock plate with beveled edges and pointed tail, stamped below the pan with a crown over "HB" and "A ST ETIENNE," the inside surface stamped "I.M.P[?]"; iron furniture including butt plate with blunt finial, trigger guard with pointed finials, and "S" side plate; original sling swivels; steel rammer with button head, overall lg. 60 1/4 in.
