Lieutenant Thomas Blake's Cheesebox Canteen, New England, c. 1775-76, the single band body secured by rosehead tacks, and thin pine heads secured to the rim by wood pins, the heads with later painted inscription reading "LIEUT THOS BLAKE/PAYMASTER/1st NEW HAMPSHIRE/REGIMENT/1775-76" and "Presented to/Otis Everett/1882/he being one of/4th Generation," with remnants of 19th century cotton strap attached to outside with brass tacks, (cracks, losses),dia. 7 1/8, wd. 2 3/4 in.
