French Model 1763/66 Infantry Musket, Charleville, France, c. late 1760s, 44 5/8 in., .75 caliber round barrel with top mounted bayonet lug; double bridle lock with beveled edge and pointed tail, marked below the pan "D" and "Charleville," the inside of the plate marked "LFP"; walnut stock, the left side stamped "D" near the butt plate and with carved initials "MC" above; iron furniture of proper form for the model including butt plate with rounded tang, trigger guard with pointed finials, marked "M" inside the bow, "S" shape side plate and three barrel retaining bands with spring clips; original sling swivels; missing rammer, overall lg. 59 3/8 in.

Metal toned to a deep brown; barrel has minor pitting at the breech, vent is much oversized, missing breech plug screw; lock is missing top jaw and jaw screw, has a deeply worn steel, minor pitting in and aroud the pan; stock is darkly soiled, has strip of wood loss along the right barrel edge between upper and middle band, losses around the lock mortice and small crack in the forward end of the mortice. Rammer is missing.
