Two Niels Jorgen Haugesen (Denmark, 1936-2013) for Tranekaer String Chairs, Denmark, late 20th century, black lacquered wood with string back support, with maker's mark, ht. 28, seat ht. 17, wd. 22, dp. 21 in.
Note: Haugesen was the foremost Danish representative of the high-tech movement in the 1980s. His design combines well-thought-out functionality with a great understanding of the material. Haugesen was known for a rigorous and industrial style, which is nevertheless very sophisticated with elaborate structural details. In 1996, Haugesen was awarded the Furniture Prize and the Ministry of Culture's lifelong work grant. Twice before, Haugesen had received the Danish Design Award.
