N.B. Born in 1920, Shachner is a veteran of World War II, as well as a veteran performer with the New York City Ballet under George Balanchine, and the NBC Symphony Orchestra under Arturo Toscanini. Career highlights include Sid Caesar's Your Show of Shows, and debut performances and original cast recordings of the Broadway shows West Side Story and Peter Pan.
