Framed dimensions: 30 x 23 1/2 x 1 1/4 in.
Sheet size is 22 x 15 3/4 inches, heavy watercolor paper.
When the work was opened during preview, it was found that the watercolor is double-sided. The reverse is a horizontal summer scene that shows an oblique view of a row of houses on a village street on the right, with an open grassy area and barn on the left.
The condition of the recto shows mat burn and toning to the edges of the sheet, tack holes along the bottom edge. There is an abraded area l.c. that seems intentional. There is a dog ear crease in the l.r. corner which is stabilized on the reverse with brown paper tape along the back edge. Sheet is hinged in two places along the top edge of the reverse.
Reverse with brown paper tape around the top and right edges and at the l.r. corner where it stabilizes the dog ear crease mentioned above. There are also abrasions to the u.r. corner on the reverse, and the hinges mentioned above overlap the painted area of the sheet by about an inch or so. Due to the way the mat is constructed, we were not able to open it fully.
