There is significant alligatoring in the darkest brown pigment across the center and along the bottom edge. Whether it is due to the make up of the dark brown pigment or if the work was exposed to heat at some time is unknown. The losses are in the center right and measure 1/8 and 1/16 inch. The craquelure is prominent but seems stable. The work does not appear to be signed on the front, although it is very dark along the bottom edge. It is inscribed or signed on the stretcher, with the artist's name only partially visible under various layers of brown paper tape.
