The consignors have recently provided a copy of the Sotheby's, London, sales receipt from March, 1959, as well as correspondence indicating that the work was damaged when sent from London to the buyer in New York. Conservation was undertaken by Max Granick in New York, and a copy of his invoice dated May 22, 1959, indicates his effort was to "restore holes and scratches in picture, and re-frame."
