Southwest Polychrome ShalakoKatsina, c. 1960, made by James Kootshongsie (1916-1996),known as Jimmie Koots, from the Third Mesa village of Hotevilla, carved from cottonwood, with a white mask and an elaborate tablita with cloud symbols, the chin painted with various colors radiating out from the center of mouth, the towering body wears a robe painted with eagle feathers, a carved "turquoise nugget" hangs from the row of corn on forehead and "turquoise earrings" from ears, with painted inventory number on underside of dress, ht. 14 3/4 in.
