Plains Painted Buffalo Hide Shield, Crow, fourth quarter 19th century, the round shield of thick buffalo hide, without the outer cover, pigmented on one side, probably with vermillion, with later added fur-lined hide straps on the back, and ermine tied to front, (warping to the hide),wd. 17 in.
Provenance: Private collection, Salt Lake City, Utah; Purchased from a Wyoming Trading post.
