Manuscript to Samuel Batchelder's The Introduction and Early Progress of the Cotton Manufacture in the United States and Two First Edition Copies of the Published Book,Early 1860s. Written in black ink on lined laid paper with "Planter & Porter Congress" embossed stamp in u.l. corner, 114 numbered pages with "note" sheets within, and twenty additional notes pages at the back, all bound with pink linen tape; the two books in publisher's purple cloth, (book spines warped, faded and with some losses at hinges),manuscript 9 3/4 x 7 3/4 in.
Provenance: The Charles Foster Batchelder III estate, upstate New York, formerly of Natick, Massachusetts.
