President Abraham Lincoln Funeral Letter with Sprig of Funeral Wreath, 21 April 1865. Single page on lined Surgeon General's Office, Washington, DC, addressed "Dear Mother," reading in part "This month of April 1865 as thus far been the most remarkable of all our experience. This country never before witnessed such scenes of rejoicing, so suddenly draped in mourning. I have seen all that could be seen of the whole affair. Was present fifteen minutes after the shot was fired, and witnessed the last scene, the general procession... I enclose a few sprigs which came from Mr. Lincoln's coffin on the day of the funeral. You can rely on this sprig being a part of wreath which surrounded the coffin.," (folds, stains, sheet laid down), 9 1/4 x 7 3/4 in.
