Glidden between February and April 1865, discussing the fall of Charleston, South Carolina, and the flying of the United States flag over Fort Sumter; the surrender of General Lee and artillery salutes; praise for and then shock at the assassination of Abraham Lincoln; and a promissory note signed by Glidden, (folds, moisture stains, tears, losses).
