Copy of Capriccio Ruins and Classic Buildings
Unsigned.
Oil on canvas, 22 x 26 in. (56.0 x 66.0 cm),framed.

Provenance: Purchased in Venice in 1999.
N.B. Based on a Canaletto work from the 1730s, this copy is thought date from the early 20th century or perhaps the later 19th century. According to a note that accompanies the painting, there are sixteen known variants of this composition by Canaletto, and the copy at hand appears to be based on a version in the Accademia in Florence.
Estimate $300-500
Framed dimensions are 25 1/2 x 29 1/2 x 2 in. Modern Guido, Boston, frame.
Wax lined. Under UV examination there are a series of small blue dots in the sky which appear to be some kind of errant drops of pigment rather than retouch over losses, since they do not conform to the shape of the craquelure but seem to overlay it..
