Framed dimensions are 54 1/2 x 35 3/4 x 2 1/2 inches, with a label from Pierce-Archer, Ltd., Palm Beach, Florida, affixed to the back of the frame.
The signature suggests the artist could have been Aert Schouman (Dutch, 1710-1792),although the execution lacks the detail and finesse associated with that artist. The painting could possibly be as early as the 18th century, based upon what one can discern of the canvas texture from the front, but this cannot be asserted with any certainty.
