Brown-painted and Carved Cherry Chest-on-frame, probably Connecticut, 18th century, the case with flat-molded cornice and six thumb-molded graduated drawers, the lowest of which is carved with two pinwheels flanking a fan, all set into a base with molded edge and cutout frame carved with two pinwheels joining bandy legs, repainted brown, (carving likely later),ht. 58, wd. 35 1/2, dp. 17 in.
Proceeds to benefit the Historic Deerfield Museum Collections Fund.

This chest-on-chest is in very good structural condition, and has a later Spanish brown-painted surface over an earlier red wash. We believe that the carving on the lower drawer and the valanced skirt was added sometime in the 20th century, before the brown surface was put on.
