Mary Cassatt (American, 1844-1926)
Sketch of a Head of a Girl in a Hat with a Black Rosette, alternately titled Fillette aux cheveux blonds
Unsigned, titled "Fillette" on an unattributed gummed label affixed to the back of the frame, with ink and wax stamps from A.M. Reitlinger and Christie's auctions (see below) on the reverse.
Oil on canvas laid down on board, 9 3/4 x 12 3/4 in. (24.8 x 32.4 cm),framed.
Condition: Very minor surface grime, reverse of the support with scattered abrasions and wear.

The young girl pictured here bears a strong resemblance to Cassatt's model in "Child in a Straw Hat" (c. 1886)in the collection of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.
