Note: Highlighted in the 2017 Colby-Sawyer College exhibition Inner Visions: Selections from the Collection of Beverly Stearns Bernson. Al Taplet, or "Big Al," was originally a shoe-shiner in New Orleans where he created these signs as an artistic outlet. He would sell these paintings along with his trade and steadily, his signs gained popularity.
