Thomas Hart Benton (American, 1889-1975)
Planting, alternatively titled Spring Plowing, 1939, edition of 250 plus proofs, circulated in 1940 by Associated American Artists, New York (Fath, 28; AAA/Czestochowski, 1940.003). Signed "Benton" in pencil l.r. and within the matrix. Lithograph on wove paper, image size 9 7/8 x 12 5/8 in. (25.0 x 32.0 cm),framed.
Condition: Full sheet with deckled edges, very pale mat burn, pale toning to margins on verso, cloth tape plus residue from previous hinges to upper corners.
Provenance: Gifted as a wedding present to the mother of the current owner in the 1940s.

The sheet measures 12 1/8 x 16 inches, and th frame is 17 3/4 x 20 3/4 x 1 inch.
