Silver Seas
Signed "Henry Scott" l.r., titled on a presentation plaque, with a label from Waterhouse & Dodd affixed to the stretcher and frame.
Oil on canvas, 16 x 20 in. (40.5 x 50.5 cm),framed.
Condition: Surface grime.

Provenance: Private collection, to Christie's, South Kensington, Maritime, May 13, 1999, Lot 630; through to the current owner.

N.B. Noted marine painter Henry Scott was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (F.R.S.A.)

Framed dimensions are 19 1/2 x 23 1/2 x 1 1/4 inches.

Inscribed in black ink on the stretcher, "The famous clipper 'Blue Jacket' (1790 tons) built by Jackson of East Boston in 1854. Destroyed by fire off the Falkland Isles on 9th March 1869." Also inscribed "Copyright resereved" in red ink and numbered "125" in black marker on the stretcher.

Described as "Blue Jacket Crossing the Line & Silver Seas" on a typed label from Waterhouse & Dodd, London, affixed to the frame and stretcher.
