William E. Hentschel (1892-1962) for Rookwood Pottery Matte Glaze Vase, Cincinnati, Ohio, 1913, glazed earthenware, impressed signature, date, and number to underside, "Flame Mark/1660D/WEH," ht. 9, dia. 3 3/4 in.
Note: Hentschel was born in New York in 1892 and studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy. He began as a designer at Rookwood in 1913 and worked there until 1939. He produced over 4,000 different designs for Rookwood, many incised and molded.
