Eric DolphySelmer Super Balanced Action Alto Saxophone, c. 1949, serial no. 41245, the neck stamped with matching numbers, with Walt Johnson case; according to Carl Grubbs, "In 1963 my brother Earl Grubbs was going to New York to visit with Naima Coltrane. I asked him to find me a decent alto saxophone. While Earl was in New York he met Eric Dolphy. He and Eric hung out on the scene and he spent the night at Eric's loft apartment. Earl spoke with Eric about finding me a decent saxophone. Eric told him that he had an alto saxophone that he would give him for me. Eric stated that if he kept the horn around he would always play it and would not play the new horn that he had obtained. So, when Earl returned to Philadelphia, he had the Selmer."
