Venetian Sailboats. Signed "Eugene Vail." l.r., inscribed "No. 23" on the stretcher and on the reverse, inscribed indistinctly "Salon de 18...-" (possibly 1899) to the tacking edge. Oil on canvas, 21 x 26 1/4 in., unframed. Condition: Heavy surface grime, wear to edges with scattered paint loss, thinned pigment to upper quarter, craquelure, stretcher bar marks, varnish discoloration.
