Mathurine de Vallois (fl. 1589-1627) Letter Signed, July 1628. Five-page folio, with pencil inscription in the margin, bound in half leather (wear, page separations),sheet 13 1/2 x 8 1/2 in.

Mathurine de Vallois, aka "Mathurine la folle," was jester in the court of Henry III, Henry IV and Louis XIII of France. She was present during the assassination attempt of Henry IV in 1594 and arrested the assailant, Jean Chatel, herself.
