Condition: Minor surface accretions and grime.
Provenance: Meinhard Galleries, Garland, Texas; through to Austin Auction Gallery, Austin, Texas, February 14, 2010, Lot 241, with a full attribution to Theodore Rousseau; to the current private New England collection.
N.B. The attribution of this painting has been changed to Barbizon School, 19th Century. The timing of the auction did not allow for the completion of expertise for the full attribution to Theodore Rousseau.
Framed dimensions are 12 5/8 x 15 x 1 3/4 in. Frame with a label from Meinhard Galleries, location unspecified, affixed to the backing, and also with a date stamp of "APR 64" on the backing.
Minor surface imperfections. Two very small paint losses (larger measures 1/16 in) in the tree foliage on center right side. Possible varnish inconsistencies in the clouds. Small dots of losses from frame abrasion along top edge. No additional condition issues to report.
