Flame-stitch Wallet with Sewing Case Inside, America, 18th century, the silk flame-stitch in shades of red, blue, green, and yellow opening to three compartments lined in green silk, the flap initialed "MAH"; the small needle case attached to the wallet by a silk cord, similarly stitched, opening to a single compartment and woolen needle cloth, wallet ht. 4, wd. 5 1/4 in.
Note: An 1875 dated note in the wallet reads "The work of a School-girl/done/in the year 1799/by Mary Ann Hunting."
