Pair of Gray-painted and Paint-decorated Tablet-back Chairs, New England, c. 1820-30, with shaped tablets centering grapes and leafage, and pinstriping and bordering in maroon and black on the stiles, spindles, seat, and bamboo-turned legs, ht. 34 1/2, seat ht. 17 3/4 in.

paint wear commensurate with use, but no evidence of any major areas of inpainting. seat edge and bamboo-turned bases appear to have a varnished surface that has yellowed slightly.
