Paint-decorated Harmonist or Harmonite Cupboard, Pennsylvania, c. 1825, with molded cornice above an upper section with two paneled cupboard doors centering four-pointed stars above a projecting work shelf with undermolding, and lower section featuring a similarly decorated door, all on molded base and shoe feet, original painted decoration in overall red, the door panels painted yellow and blue, (imperfections),ht. 80 1/2 in.

Note: The Harmony Society was a German separatist group founded by Johann Georg Rapp in 1785. After persecution by the Lutherans, the Harmony Society left Germany and settled in Butler County, Pennsylvania, and later moved to the Indiana territory.
