N.B. Regarding this work, retired ballet dancer Robert Brassel writes "In 1971, artist David Shapiro gifted me with a watercolor he created based on his inspiration from the colors of the costume I wore for American Ballet Theatre's production of Mendelssohn's Italian Symphony, Metropolitan Opera House, Lincoln Center, New York City. At that time, David was married to dancer Naomi Sorkin who was a friend of mine. Over time, David and I became friends and I was privileged to see David's work progress from the early stages."
