Description:

Anglo-Netherlandish Diamond-point Engraved Armorial Goblet, c. 1680, funnel bowl engraved on either side with a coat of arms flanked by elaborate mantling and separated by fruiting vines, the stem with two hollow quatrefoil knops flanked by mereses, all set on a wide conical foot, ht. 8 1/2 in.

Provenance: Sotheby's Masterpieces of European Glass 1500-1900, Selections from the Hida Takayama Museum of Art, December 2002, and Sotheby's London, 9th February 1993, Lot 1.

Note: The arms are those of Anvaing, of Tournaisis, impaling those of Scorion de Leaucourt, of Tournaisis. The reverse shield and orb with arms is attributed to de Cliever of Zeeland.
