Shepherdess with a Distaff with Other Figures and Animals in a Landscape
Signed or inscribed and dated "J. Glauber 1679" on the tree trunk l.c., attributed to Johannes Glauber on a paper note affixed to the frame.
Oil on panel, 14 1/2 x 19 1/4 in. (37.0 x 49.0 cm),framed.
Condition: Retouch, signature and date strengthened or added later, fine craquelure, varnish discoloration.
N.B. This composition seems to be a pastiche after the works of Nicolaes Berchem, who was Glauber's teacher. Glauber typically created Arcadian landscape with finely rendered figures in classical costume.
